The founders of Start Shows met at the art drop-off for the Septemberfest Art Exhibition at One Art Space Gallery in TriBeCa, NYC, in September 2018. Sophocles Plokamakis, an NYC artist, published illustrator, and author, was curating the show. Thais Coelho Plokamakis, a featured artist and painter from Brazil, participated in the event.

After five successful shows at One Art Space, Thais and Sophocles launched Start Shows—a company dedicated to creating world-class art exhibitions in NYC galleries for artists from across the globe. Since its inception, Start Shows has empowered over 800 artists to showcase and sell their work, connect with collectors, curators, and peers, all while keeping 100% of the proceeds.

Beyond exhibitions, Thais and Sophocles are passionate educators. They’ve taught artists of all ages the art of drawing and painting and serve as Art Coaches to help aspiring creators transition to full-time careers in art.
